Transportation Leadership Award - Individual Owner
Jay J. Hietpas is the Design-Build Program Manager for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He has coordinated the procurement of the I-35W bridge replacement project, provided support to Mn/DOT staff on design-build projects, and negotiated changes to design-build state laws with state representatives and members of the contracting industry. Prior to becoming Mn/DOT's Design-Build Program Manager, Jay managed transportation projects for Mn/DOT as a consultant.
Mr. Hietpas has a Masters Degree and Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Currently he is the Treasurer of the DBIA Upper Midwest Region, an active member of the DBIA National Transportation Committee, and the former 2007 DBIA Transportation Conference Co-Chair. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Project Delivery Methods and Chairman of the SHRP II Expert Task Group for Project R09 Risk Manual for Renewal Contracts.
