Transportation Leadership Award - Industry Professional
In November 2006, Hamid Tabassian was named the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) Manager of Highway Design to lead and manage the Authority’s Transportation Improvement Planning and Design Program, responsible for quality “on-time and within budget” project design performance meeting the highest standards of safety and quality. After having served for more than twelve years at Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), he joined JTA in 1998 as the Design Project Manager, responsible for managing and coordinating a variety of JTA highway projects, including interchange planning, EIS development, PD&E studies, roadway and bridge design and permitting efforts for major urban transportation facilities in Jacksonville.
At VDOT from 1985 to 1998, he held a variety of positions at the Structures and Bridge Division in Richmond, where he served as Structural Engineer and Senior Structural Engineer, responsible for designing and managing the development of multiple complex bridge projects from planning to final design and preparation of construction bid documents.
Mr. Tabassian is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from University of Missouri in Columbia in 1984. He received his Masters degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering from the University of Virginia in 1996. He is a member of ASCE, DBIA, ASHE, FES, Take Stock in Children and Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church since 2000.
Mr. Tabassian and his wife of 19 years, Sheila, enjoy their two wonderful children, Lilia 13, and Arman 10. Mr. Tabassian and his family immigrated to the United States from Iran in 1978. Hamid enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and walking on the beach. He also enjoys various sports, chess and community service.
