G. William Quatman, Esq., FAIA, DBIA

Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc.
Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Quatman is a licensed architect and attorney who is General Counsel to Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc., an integrated design-build firm (ranked as #21 on Engineering News-Record’s Top Design-Build Firms in 2011). He is an internationally recognized author and speaker on construction law and on design-build. In 2006, AIA National President Kate Schwennsen, FAIA, said, “A recognized authority on design-build, he has earned the reputation as the Institute’s Mr. Design-Build.” Mr. Quatman has extensive experience in the area of state and federal legislation for design-build and alternative project delivery and is past national chairman of DBIA's Laws Committee, for which he was named DBIA’s Committee Chair of the Year (2003). In 2007, he was AIA’s National Chairman of the Design-Build Knowledge Community, which had over 8,500 members. He has spoken at ten AIA and five DBIA National conventions on design-build and other topics, and he has given presentations on design-build across the United States, in Canada, England and Puerto Rico.

Mr. Quatman has taught courses on design-build at the University of Kansas and is the author of a leading book on design-build titled Design-Build for the Design Professional (Aspen Publishing 2001), as well as the chief editor of AIA’s book, The Architect’s Guide to Design-Build Services (Wiley 2003). He served on DBIA’s Designation Board and was the author of The Ethics Advisor, a series of articles published in DBIA’s Design-Build Dateline magazine. He has been named annually to the prestigious Best Lawyers in America®, as well as Missouri and Kansas “Super Lawyers” listings, and in 2005 was named the Missouri Architect of the Year. Mr. Quatman is the first architect ever to become both a Fellow of the AIA (FAIA) and a Designated Design-Build Professional™ (DBIA) of the Design-Build Institute of America. He currently serves on the DBIA Documents Committee.
