Mr. Dean is the Chief Executive Officer of M.C. Dean, Inc., a leading national provider of electronic systems integration and electrical and telecommunications systems engineering, specialty construction, and operations and maintenance. With a staff of more than 2,500, the firm has a reputation for excellence and expertise resultant from its large contingent of engineers and technicians, many of whom are recognized industry experts. M.C. Dean, Inc. has a global presence, having performed work on five continents and over 40 countries from its 20 offices in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Under Mr. Dean’s leadership, M.C. Dean, Inc. has grown twentyfold in annual revenues. More than 95% of this growth has been organic, the result of the firms outstanding, long term staff and its focus on the retention and development of existing clients and the expansion of service offerings within its core electrical, telecommunications, and electronic systems market. Today, M.C. Dean, Inc. specializes in the lifecycle delivery of a diverse range of multi-disciplined technical solutions, from VSAT IP satellite networks, to command and control systems, to fiber to the home (FTTH) networks, and to mission critical power systems.
In 1999 Mr. Dean and several key colleagues created the firm’s wholly owned subsidiary OpenBand LLC, a competitive local exchange carrier that delivers voice, data, and video services to several thousand residents and businesses in Virginia (after Verizon, the largest FTTH operator in the state) and a professional services group that is one of the predominant providers of voice and data infrastructure engineering and delivery of IP satellite services to support U.S. military operations and diplomatic missions in Western Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East, and North Africa.
In 2003 the firm entered the process and automation markets through its first business purchase of CIM Associates. Today this business unit is recognized as an expert in design, engineering, and programming for a PLC-based controllers, SCADA systems, robotics, electronic eye systems, and applications in homeland security and detention and factory automation systems.
Mr. Dean is actively involved in numerous industry organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Design-Build Institute of America, the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), and the American Society of Industrial Security. He has a leadership role on a variety of boards and councils related to technical education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship. Among these are the D.C. Workforce Investment Council and the D.C Apprenticeship Council. He is a periodic guest lecturer at Georgetown University.
Mr. Dean holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from NC State University and is an advocate for design-build and performance-based project delivery methods and contracting.
