Associate Vice Chancellor and Campus Architect for the University of California, Irvine, Rebekah Gladson oversees the design, construction, inspection and contracting for all major capital projects at both the Irvine campus and UCI Medical Center.
Ms. Gladson has spearheaded the broad acceptance of highly successful Design-Build processes for design and construction on the UCI campus and Medical Center. Through her efforts, UCI has become known in the industry for its alternative delivery of projects and as an active advocate in the use of partnering and other tools for creating spaces conducive to research and learning. She has promoted a vision of architecture for UCI that fosters the personal learning environment occupied by researchers, teachers and students. She currently oversees a design and construction budget of $1.3 billion, which will support the anticipated doubling in size of the UCI physical plant in square footage over the next decade.
Under Ms. Gladson’s leadership of Design & Construction Services, UCI has received many national and regional awards for design and building excellence. In 2006 alone, UCI was named Owner of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association (ASA); and, Ms. Gladson was personally honored with the Brunelleschi Lifetime Achievement Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), as well as the Client Achievement Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC).
Sought after for her expertise, Ms. Gladson frequently lectures at, and consults with, universities and professional organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad, focusing on alternative construction delivery methods, managing the implementation of capital programs, and leadership and strategic problem-solving. She is Chair of the National Board for the DBIA and serves on the boards of various professional and academic institutions.
Rebekah Gladson holds a Masters of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and certificates from the Institute for Executive Leadership and Management at Stanford University and the University of California Management Institute.
