2012 FEATURED PRESENTATIONS

Opening Keynote
Wednesday, November 7, 2012
2:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Lt. General Russel Honoré, (Ret.)
Commander of Joint Task Force Katrina
Global Preparedness Expert

No one can forget the images of devastation on the Gulf Coast left by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. When it seemed that desperation and chaos were taking over the city of New Orleans, one man stepped in to take charge and restore order and hope – General Russel L. Honoré.

Prior to his command of Joint Task Force-Katrina – leading the Department of Defense response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana – General Honoré served in a variety of command and staff positions which focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. For four of the past six hurricane seasons, he supported the Department of Defense planning and response for Hurricanes Floyd in 1999; Lilli and Isidore in 2002 (both hit the Gulf Coast); Isabel in 2003; and Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne in 2004. General Honoré also planned and supported the United States military response to the devastating flooding which swept Venezuela 1999 and Mozambique in 2000.

General Honoré retired on February 29, 2008, following 37 years of active service with the United States Army.  He continues to speak and consult nationally on Building a Culture of Preparedness, and is a CNN contributor.

Closing General Session
Friday, November 9, 2012
1:45 pm – 3:00 pm

Jamie Clarke
Extreme Adventurer

After pursuing his goal for 18 years and making two attempts to reach the summit, Jamie Clarke became the ninth Canadian to summit Mount Everest.

The culmination of years of work, this feat was just the beginning of his epic journeys.
Clarke’s next adventure was a camel crossing of more than 700 miles through Arabia’s Empty Quarter, the most desolate and dangerous desert in the world, becoming the first Westerner to do so in over 50 years. Over the course of the next decade, Clarke accomplished mountaineering’s legendary feat: he successfully climbed the Seven Summits.  And then in 2010, as if once were not enough, Jamie reached Everest’s peak for a second time.

Also an author and a filmmaker, Clarke’s documentaries have aired on National Geographic television and his books Everest to Arabia and Above All Else have become best-sellers.
