Owner of the Year

If you know an owner in the transportation field who uses design-build as a project delivery method and has made significant contributions to advancing design-build awareness and understanding, he or she might be a prime candidate for a DBIA Transportation Owner of the Year Award.

To be presented April 1-3 during the 2009 Design-Build in Transportation Conference in Baltimore, MD, the awards are just part of dozens of conference events that will bring together transportation planners, economic development professionals, state agency representatives, contractors and other stakeholders from around the country. Whether representing rails, ports, airports, highways, roads or bridges, attendees will learn about noteworthy practices, enjoy networking opportunities and hear the latest about emerging design-build transportation issues and approaches.

Eligibility
Owners in public or private transportation fields are eligible as long as design-build has been utilized as one of their project delivery methods.

Nominations
Any individual or company may nominate an owner for this prestigious award. Nominators and owners need not be DBIA members.  However, demonstration of how DBIA programs, products and/or services have influenced the development of an owner’s design-build program is an important judging criterion.

Deadline & Application
The deadline to submit nominations is January 26, 2009. To view and complete applications please use the links below.

Owners Forum

The challenge before DBIA is to determine the most appropriate, effective and timely strategies to address the needs, facilitate the opportunities and minimize the obstacles faced by owners as they seek to understand and utilize the project delivery method most appropriate to their needs. At this forum you will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with other owners experienced in all methods of project delivery. You and your peers will share your views, answer questions and discuss how DBIA can further support owner needs—without any pressure from those selling products and services. DBIA is looking for the most appropriate effective and timely strategies to address the needs, facilitate the opportunities and minimize the obstacles faced by owners as they seek to understand and utilize the project delivery method most appropriate to their needs.

Owners wishing to attend only the Forum may do so at no charge. However, registration is still required. For those wishing to attend the entire conference, limited complimentary registrations are available through a newly created Owner Education Fund, or you may register at a substantially discounted rate.

Owner Education Fund

DBIA is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for complimentary registration to our 2009 Transportation Conference from our “Owner Education Fund” and for travel assistance from our newly established “Owner Travel Fund.”

The goal of these Funds is to advance the awareness, understanding and use of design-build as a project delivery method by owners. The complimentary registration and travel assistance provides an opportunity for owners to network with other owners, and to share their experiences with various project delivery methods.

Maximum Award Amount:
• The Owner Education Fund scholarship covers complimentary registration (a $500 value) to the 2009 Transportation Conference
• The Owner Travel Fund is used to offset all or a portion of an individual’s travel costs.  Recipients are eligible to have coach airfare and lodging for up to three nights covered.  The amount awarded is based on the number of applications received and fund availability.

Applicants may apply for consideration under both or only one of these funds.  DBIA cannot guarantee that those who apply for both the “Owner Education Fund” and the “Owner Travel Fund” will be awarded monies from both.

Eligibility:  Any owner -- public or private -- of construction projects is eligible, as long as they are considering, or interested in considering, the use of design-build as a project delivery method, or have utilized this project delivery method in the past.  Applicants need not be members of DBIA to qualify.  “Owner’s Representatives” are only eligible if the application includes a signed statement from the owner attesting that the “owner’s representative” is attending on behalf of the organization.

Deadline & Applications:  Applications are being accepted from September 1, 2008 through February 1, 2009. To view and complete applications please use the links below:
