Mark M. Mitts is a Senior Vice President and Director of Professional Operations for DesignSense, Incorporated, an integrated design-build consulting firm located in Olathe, Kansas. Mark has more than 20 years of experience in design and design management, construction management, and integrated services consulting in both the public and private sectors. As Director of Professional Operations, Mark provides leadership in sculpting DSI’s 3PQ© Design-Build Consulting Services and project implementation. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and attended the University of Nebraska in the graduate studies program for Transportation Engineering.
Mark has practiced on both sides of the design-build delivery method. He has worked with owners to create successful design-build procurement processes. He has also delivered projects to owners as the design-build manager responsible for design and construction. He has consistently and successfully managed 50+ municipal, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects totaling $200 million.
Mark is professionally licensed in 14 states, a certificate holder with NCEES and has earned the title of Designated Design-Build professional through the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Mark presented at the 2005 National Design-Build conference and is a DBIA instructor for ‘Performance Requirements: The Key to Effective RFP’s.’ Mark is currently a member of the DBIA Mid-America Chapter and Chairman of the Programs Committee focusing on providing owners with resources to assist them in capitalizing on the benefits of design-build.
Mark works with owners to define project goals and program needs and is responsible for working with and coordinating the project team members. He is responsible for maintaining close communication with the client through all phases of a project to ensure that all aspects of the project are handled in a thorough and professional manner with a focus on quality, budget, and schedule.
Mark served as Chair of the National Park Service Midwest Region A/E selection board. During his seven years with the Federal Government, he managed a wide range of projects and was responsible for the administration of a multi-million dollar cyclic maintenance program. Mark served on a taskforce that established the first pavement management system of more than 5,000 road miles for the National Park Service. He is a member of the American Public Works Association and is on the Board of Directors for the DBIA Mid-America Chapter.
