ENR’s 2013 Awards and Gala Reflects Growing Prominence of Design-Build Project Delivery
– When the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Jeffrey M. Baker received the ENR Award of Excellence in 2011 for the nation’s first net-zero office building and the design-build best practices that facilitated the project, it was clearly a portent of things to come. Since 1964, Engineering News-Record (ENR) has selected yearly newsmakers for their innovations and achievements, for giving back to the industry and the public. Often referred to as the “Oscars” of the A/E/C community, ENR’s Awards program features a luncheon and annual black tie gala in New York City.

ENR’s Best of the Best 2012 Editor’s Choice Award Demonstrates the Power of Design-Build Done Right
– Engineering News-Record’s Best of the Best 2012 Awards identify and honor the most outstanding construction efforts completed in the U.S. and Puerto Rico between July 2011 and June 2012. An additional honor, the Editor’s Choice award, identifies one project among the Best of the Best that “represent[s] the pinnacle of design and construction excellence.” Both ENR and DBIA singled out the John James Audubon Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River to connect New Roads and St. Francisville, La., as a particularly stunning example of design and construction. DBIA’s recognition highlighted the project team’s effective utilization of design-build to achieve excellence in design.

2012 DESIGN-BUILD CONFERENCE AND EXPO HIGHLIGHTS TEAM-WIDE INTEGRATION ON PROJECTS
– The Design-Build Institute of America, the only organization that defines, teaches and promotes best practices in design-build project delivery, hosted another near record-breaking Design-Build Conference and Expo in New Orleans, La. Themed Design-Build Unmasked: Rebuilding Through Integration, the meeting not only recognized how far the city has come since Hurricanes Rita and Katrina devastated the city but also acknowledged the role design-build project delivery has played in the rebuilding effort, including the Storm Surge Barrier Protection project that protected New Orleans from Isaac’s steady deluge just a few months ago.

First Round of Inaugural National Design-Build Student Competition is Complete
– The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is pleased to announce that the first round of judging for the inaugural National Design-Build Student Competition has concluded. The three teams that will move on to the final phase of the competition are Milwaukee School of Engineering’s “Atlas Design & Construction,” Washington State University’s “Northwest Affinity Constructors” and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo’s “IS&D.” The winners were selected from nine teams that emerged as frontrunners at the regional level.
