We Teach How; We Teach Now

DBIA is taking its “We Teach How” message to new heights with a new Web site feature at www.dbia.org. Just click on the “Learn About Design-Build” button on our home page and get a personal introduction to DBIA and integrated project delivery from DBIA president Lee Evey.

It’s the perfect opportunity to learn DBIA’s owner objectives for 2008, get a historical snapshot of DBIA since its inception 15 years ago and learn the reasons design-build is the best delivery method for your integrated design and construction project.

In addition, you can get an overview of DBIA’s education programs, in which the institute is so confident that we offer a money-back guarantee. Take in all of the features of the short video and learn the step-by-step process to assemble your award-winning design-build team. This will give you the essential tools and information you need to complete your high-quality projects with reduced cost on a reduced schedule and with much less litigation.

But you must take the next step. Visit www.dbia.org today and begin your journey on the design-build path. The best way to meet the challenges and adapt to the changes in the design and construction industry is with DBIA.

Annual Conference Wheels Turning

DBIA is working hard to make the 2008 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Las Vegas the biggest and best ever. Scheduled from Nov. 3-5 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino right on Las Vegas Boulevard, DBIA is already working on a stellar lineup of speakers and events to get the most of this prime meeting spot.

Experience is the foundation beneath Tony Marnell, founder, chief executive officer and chairman of Marnell Corrao Associates Inc. One of this year’s featured speakers, Marnell will offer his remarks at the opening general session Nov. 4. Marnell Corrao Associates is internationally acclaimed for the design and construction of resort hotels and gambling properties around the globe. A registered architect in 25 states, Marnell is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is a member of the American Institute of Architects. He also serves on the board of councilors at the University of Southern California School of Architecture and is trustee emeritus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Foundation Board.

If you or your company is interested in any of the prime sponsorship opportunities that the conference brings each year, please visit www.designbuildexpo.com immediately to see how DBIA can help you make the most of your visit to Las Vegas.

Award Submission Deadline Is Soon

It’s time to submit your successful design-build project(s) for our 2008 National Design-Build Awards competition, as well as nominate individuals who have demonstrated their dedication to integrated project delivery. Completed entries and entry fee payments must arrive to the DBIA national office in Washington, D.C., no later than May 30, 2008.

To be considered for a National Design-Build Award, projects must demonstrate successful application of design-build principles, including collaboration in the early stages of the project and the acceptance of single-entity risk. The project must be completed on time, on budget and without litigation. Winning projects are honored for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and finding unique solutions for project challenges.

Project submissions may be awarded a National Design-Build, Design-Build Excellence or Design-Build Merit Award in one of 13 categories. To be eligible, projects must have been completed between March 31, 2005, and March 31, 2008. This year, all project entries are also automatically eligible for a “Best Overall” award competition.

Judging will take place at DBIA in June 2008 by a jury of industry experts, including DBIA members, owners and design-builders.

Award presentations will take place during the 2008 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nov. 3-5, 2008.

Clicks for Contract Documents

If you haven’t been to the DBIA Web site at www.dbia.org recently, it’s worth the trip. Not only can you view the new “Learn About Design-Build” feature mentioned earlier, you will also find easier access to DBIA features and materials. In three clicks of a computer mouse you can select one of our 11 contract documents to help you move forward with your design-build project.

All documents are available in PDF and hard copy versions. And most are also available in a Word for Windows format.

Last Chance for Transpower

You still have time to register and attend Transpower 2008, the Design-Build In Transportation Conference, from April 16-18 in Louisville, Ky., but time is very short and hotel space is limited.

If you would like to attend, please contact the Marriott Louisville Downtown at 502-627-5045 to secure accommodations as soon as possible.

This year at the conference, DBIA wants to determine the most appropriate, effective and timely strategies to address the needs, facilitate the opportunities and minimize the obstacles faced by owners as they seek to understand and utilize the project delivery method most appropriate to their needs.

To help in this area, don’t miss the Owners Forum. This gathering will give attendees the opportunity to meet face-to-face with other owners experienced in all methods of project delivery. You and your peers will share views, answer questions and discuss how DBIA can further support owner needs — without any pressure from those selling products and services.

DBIA is looking for the most appropriate, effective and timely strategies to address the needs, facilitate the opportunities and minimize the obstacles faced by owners as they seek to understand and utilize the project delivery method most appropriate to their needs.

Owners wishing to attend only the forum may do so at no charge. However, registration is still required. For those wishing to attend the entire conference. Visit www.designbuildtransportation.com for more information.
