Las Vegas, NV — The Design-Build Institute of America presented awards to 28 projects at the Minds and MasterWorks 2005 gala. This year marked the 10th year of the national design-build competition. Nearly 100 entries, representing over $5 billion of construction delivered utilizing integrated design and construction, were submitted. Of these projects, virtually all were delivered on or ahead of schedule and on or below budget with no litigation emanating from the project. Simply stated, that means that being on-time, and on-budget, with no litigation, was not a criterion for winning an award. Those were minimal standards. Winning projects were honored for going beyond those standards — for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery.
Three levels of design-build awards were presented. The National Design-Build Award is DBIA’s highest-ranking award and was granted to projects that best exemplified the principles of interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, and problem solving that characterize the best in design-build delivery. These projects frequently broke new ground in their approach and have the potential to change the industry.
The Design-Build Excellence Award, the second highest ranking award, was presented to projects that represent successful analysis of design-build strategies resulting in a unique application of teaming.
Merit Awards, the third highest ranking award, signify excellent implementation of design-build techniques meeting or exceeding the owner’s expectations.
