I’m pleased to introduce our 2007 Public Sector issue, a precursor to our Design-Build for Federal Facilities Conference this June 27 - 29, 2007, at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC, DBIA’s headquarters and home to the new Nationals baseball stadium — a design-build project currently underway along the Anacostia Waterfront.
A Proven Process, Not a Panacea is DBIA’s message to Federal owners and practitioners. Our goal is to provide you with the best understanding of all the options available to you in the project delivery toolbox in order to make the most informed decisions, while keeping within budgetary constraints. In both this issue and at our upcoming event, you’ll find the information you need to determine whether design-build is the best delivery method tool for your project.
You won’t want to miss this event’s keynote presentation on the Pentagon’s reconstruction efforts and long history as the largest and highest-capacity office building in the world. Since 1998, the Pentagon has been undergoing a major renovation to bring the building up to modern standards, remove asbestos, improve security, and provide greater efficiency for Pentagon tenants. Discover the history of its original construction in a discussion led by Steve Vogel, renowned Washington Post columnist and author of the new book, The Pentagon: A History. Lee Evey, DBIA’s President, and former Program Manager for the Pentagon Renovation Program, will then lead us through the Phoenix Project, the nationally-acclaimed rebuilding of the Pentagon that has transformed the Government’s procurement of design and construction services.
Stop by our book signing of The Pentagon: A History with Steve Vogel during lunch in the exhibit hall on Thursday, June 28, 2007.
We’re also pleased to invite you to hear from Federal agencies in the Owner Panel Discussion on Thursday, June 28. Presenters include: Steve Iselin, P.E., Chief Engineer & Assistant Commander Capital Improvements, NAVFAC; Paul Parker, Director, US Air Force; Gilbert Delgado, Director, Construction Excellence & Project Management, Office of the Chief Architect, GSA; Jeff Hooghouse, AIA, DBIA, Deputy Chief Architect, Army Corp of Engineers; Scott Higgins, Chief, Design & Construction, Federal Bureau of Prisons.
We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to Washington. Be sure to also save the dates of October 31 – November 2 for our Annual Conference in Grapevine (Dallas), TX. In the meantime though, feel free to email me at jwhitener@DBIA.org with questions or a letter to the editor.
Welcome to Washington!
