Projects to Watch

New Contracts

Finfrock Selected

Orlando, FL — In April KUD International chose Finfrock Design-Manufacture-Construct to design-build their Bonnet Creek Resort. The project is for a $13.1 million parking garage to serve a new hotel and conference center. Finfrock’s redesign from the original concept drawings brought the project back into budget.

New Project at UCI

Irvine, CA — Hensel Phelps Construction Co. and Fentress Bradburn Architects were selected in a competition for the new design-build Humanities Gateway at the University of California — Irvine (UCI). The $29 million project will be the fifth building the UCI’s humanities quad; completion is scheduled for June 2009.

Under Construction

New Public Works Facility

Naperville, IL — The City of Naperville, with design-builder McShane Construction Corporation, conducted groundbreaking ceremonies on the site of the city’s new $25 million, 213,000 s.f., Multi-Purpose Public Works Service Center. The new facility will provide space archival storage of historical materials, community meeting rooms, administrative office space, fleet services and operations, and a number of other spaces. The design-build team of McShane and Areté 3, in the design and construction, will deliver a LEED-certified facility.

International Projects

CH2M HILL Develops Plan

Denver, CO — CH2M HILL and its partner Atelier Dreiseitl are working with PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, to develop a master plan for the Central Catchment under the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme. In addition to developing and designing concepts, the master plan identifies potential projects that can be implemented in the short term.

Earth Tech Delivers

Long Beach, CA – In June, the new Tianjin Jie Yuan (China) Water Treatment Plant officially opened. Earth Tech, and its parent company Tyco International Ltd., served as the designer, builder, and financer of the plant and will act as the plant’s operator. The project, renovating the existing 104-year-old plant, was complicated by the lack of space for expansion, requiring that sections of the old plant be demolished while new construction took place. The project was delivered on time and on budget and the water quality exceeds Chinese water quality standards.
