The January-February issue of Design-Build DATELINE serves two purposes. First, it is an opportunity for us to explore a variety of water/wastewater issues and projects through the following pages. But it is also gives us the opportunity to highlight issues and events at the 2008 Design-Build for Water/Wastewater Conference in Atlanta Feb. 13-15.
With up to 500 attendees expected at the Westin Peachtree Plaza, the conference is a must-attend event for the design-build community. Highlights will include experts describing pitfalls and solutions with design-build in the water/wastewater community as well as sessions that highlight lessons learned from previous water/wastewater design-build projects.
We encourage members and non-members to take advantage of early registration benefits by visiting www.designbuildwaterww.com as soon as possible. Registration rates increase after Jan. 15.
At DATELINE we’re holding up our water/wastewater end as well this month. Phil Sudol, chairman of the DBIA Water Committee, discusses Metcalf & Eddy’s pioneering sewer system rehabilitation in “Single-Sourced Rehabilitation.” Neil Callahan, vice president of the utility services practice at R.W. Beck, examines the lessons learned in the completion of a desalination facility in Tampa in “Paths to Success.” And DATELINE also features Australia’s Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant in “Down Under Water.”
In addition to water/wastewater projects, we also feature Virginia Beach’s new Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, the city’s first design-build project, in “J.S. Bach Meets Design-Build,” and we also take a look at the Charlotte, N.C., Piedmont Town Center in “Haste Avoids Waste.” And don’t miss this month’s news section featuring the new DBIA Radio.
DATELINE will return in March with a focus on transportation projects and a few new looks to go along with some high-impact content. Please keep your comments and suggestions coming so we can make DATELINE a more useful tool for the design-build community.
