Water Awards for CDM
CDM has completed a series of projects throughout Jordan to reclaim and reuse wastewater, earning the American Academy of Environmental Engineers’ 2008 grand award in small projects. The Reuse for Industry, Agriculture and Landscaping (RIAL) project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented by CDM, will meet Jordan’s water needs and provide successful examples of water reuse projects for the future. Jordan is one of the 10 most water-deprived countries in the world, receiving less than eight inches of rainfall a year.
In addition, the American Academy of Environmental Engineers has also awarded CDM its 2008 Superior Achievement Award for the Kay Bailey Hutchison desalination facilities project. This project is North America’s largest inland desalination facility, jointly implemented by El Paso Water Utilities and Fort Bliss, Texas, Army base. It applies advanced technologies to tap vast brackish water reserves beneath the desert floor and convert it into a sustainable drinking water supply for the city of El Paso and Fort Bliss. This project also received a national honor award in design from the American Council of Engineering Companies and the Eminent Conceptor Award from the Texas Council of Engineering Companies.
