Jacksonville University (JU) is perched on a rolling bluff, nestled on the banks of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Fla. The campus follows the curves, elevation changes and oak hammocks that make the land both beautiful and valuable. The challenge for JU was to upgrade an aging portion of student housing inventory to compete not only with other universities, but also with the surrounding private apartments.

In April, McCarthy Building Companies Inc. began construction of the East Natomas Educational Complex (ENEC) in Sacramento. In a partnership with LPA Inc., the two corporations are building the largest design-build public school project in the state so far as a result of a new California law.
