As world gambling revenues are expected to reach $155 billion by 2012, Las Vegas construction is more than booming. In fact, more than 20 hotels and casinos are in the design, renovation or construction phase. That’s more than $40-billion worth of construction jobs currently underway, with a big piece of that pie going to design-build firms.

From the very beginning, the clock is ticking against available time for the permitting process in design-build projects. At the Johns Creek Environmental Campus wastewater treatment facility in Fulton County, Ga., for example, the design-build team of Archer-Western Constructors and Brown and Caldwell realized the strict time constraints required for the permitting process.
