Castellone Joins McMahon
CAMP HILL, Pa. — Anthony J. Castellone, PE, PTOE, has joined McMahon Associates Inc. as senior project manager to the firm’s Traffic Engineering department. Castellone’s 25 years of experience cover a wide range of transportation projects, focusing on Intelligent Transportation Systems design, transportation planning analysis, highway capacity analysis, traffic signal design, signing, pavement markings and coordinated system signal timing. His experience in the public sector with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission included serving as project manager responsible for the City of Pittsburgh’s ITS expansion, overseeing the construction management of the I-279 HOV lane surveillance and traffic control system and serving as traffic engineer for several municipal clients.
Barton Malow Hires Watts
CHICAGO — Bruce Watts, PE, LEED AP, has joined Barton Malow Company as director of the Chicago office. He is responsible for operations leadership, including the recently awarded University of Chicago Joe and Rika Mansueto Library project. Watts brings 25 years of experience, as both a contractor and client, in a wide range of project types to the firm.

Clayco is Green
ST. LOUIS — Clayco Inc. is ranked 16th on Engineering News-Record’s second annual Top Green Contractors list. This makes Clayco the leader in sustainable building for its region, being the highest-ranked St. Louis firm and one of only four companies in Missouri that made the list. The first list was only the top 50 firms; it was increased to 100 to reflect the growth of the green movement. Paul Merrill, PE, LEED AP, credited this growth to a practical outlook for efficiency and cost savings.
CH2M HILL Pioneers PPP
DENVER — CH2M HILL was recently named a “Pioneer” by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) for promoting public-private partnerships.
The award was presented Sept. 25 at ARTBA’s 20th Annual Conference on Public-Private Ventures in Transportation in Washington, D.C.
The award recognizes CH2M HILL for its advocacy and leadership in promoting the use of public-private partnerships on transportation improvement projects. CH2M HILL served as the design-builder for Virginia’s first public-private partnership for local government to implement roadway improvements in Prince William County, estimated to have saved $47 million compared to a conventional delivery process.
This isn’t the first time CH2M HILL has been recognized for promoting public-private partnerships. In 2004 the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships recognized the firm for its work on the Port of Galveston cruise terminal, the first public-private partnership for a port project in Texas and the first time that the port had used design-build project delivery.
Barton Malow Means Concrete
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Concrete Construction Magazine has named Barton Malow Company as one of America’s largest concrete companies in 2007. The company’s concrete division is the second largest concrete contractor in Michigan and offers complete self-performed capabilities for concrete construction. In the past, Barton Malow has received awards from the American Concrete Institute, the Washtenaw Contractors Association and Special Recognition in utilizing Environmentally Friendly Technology™ from U.S. Concrete.
Horvilleur Award Announced
HOUSTON — On Oct. 9 WALTER P MOORE announced that Mark E. Williams, PhD, PE, is the 2008 recipient of the firm’s Javier F. Horvilleur Outstanding Young Engineer Award.
This award is presented each year to one young structural engineer at the firm to recognize design excellence, outstanding client service and business acumen.
Daigger Receives Award
DENVER — Glen T. Daigger, senior vice president and chief technology officer of CH2M HILL, will receive the Eddy Wastewater Principles/Processes Medal from the Water Environment Federation. The Eddy Medal, named for wastewater treatment pioneer Harrison Prescott Eddy, is awarded for research that makes a vital contribution in the field, as described and published in a WEF periodical.
Daigger, with fellow authors Craig D. Adams and Holley Kaempfer Steller, are being recognized for their article, “Diffusion of Oxygen through Activated Sludge Flocs: Experimental Measurement, Modeling, and Implications for Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification.”
The award was presented at the Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference, held Oct. 18-22 in Chicago. This is the third time Daigger has earned this award.
Ave Maria Wins Another
DENVER —The New York Tri-State Region of DBIA awarded CH2M HILL’s Ave Maria Water Treatment Plant and Water Reclamation Facility its Project of the Year Award in the water and wastewater category Oct. 16. The project won a 2007 DBIA Merit Award.

Gaskins Acquired
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Barton Malow Company has acquired the L.C. Gaskins Construction Company of Jacksonville, Fla., and Warner Robins, Ga. L.C. Gaskins’ record of success with federal projects will compliment Barton Malow’s increased participation in the federal market sector. The new entity, Gaskins, a Barton Malow company, will be led by Larry Gaskins. Harry Frost, III, formerly of Barton Malow’s Columbus, Ohio, office, will assume the role of project director and will work with the Gaskins management team in their Jacksonville office.

CH2M HILL Sponsors Outreach
DENVER — Local public television stations around the country began airing “Liquid Assets,” in October. The documentary focuses on the deterioration of essential water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure in the United States. CH2M HILL, as an outreach sponsor of the project, joined other sponsors in support of raising public interest in the nation’s water infrastructure. Many utilities are recognizing the need for asset management of their water supplies.
