Apicella Joins McMahon

Christine W. Apicella, AICP, has joined McMahon Associates as senior project planner. Apicella specializes in developing strategic transportation and community development plans, transportation demand management and building public/private partnerships.

Awards and Honors

EMCOR Admired

EMCOR Group Inc. has been named the 2009 World's Most Admired Company in the Engineering and Construction industry by FORTUNE magazine. The company achieved this ranking based on a survey of those in the industry involving nine criteria ranging from investment value to social responsibility.

CH2M HILL Named Leader

CH2M HILL has been named one of the top leaders in climate change consulting in the U.S. according to Verdantix, an independent research firm focused on climate change, carbon markets and business sustainability. Verdantix's Green Quadrant research project analyzed the U.S. climate change consulting market, applying 56 evaluation criteria. Of the seven leading firms, CH2M HILL stood out because of the breadth and depth of its capabilities and proven track record.

Griffis wins Kimbrough Award

Lawrence "Larry" G. Griffis, P.E., president of the structures division and senior principal with WALTER P MOORE, was presented with the American Institute of Steel Construction's highest individual honor, the J. Lloyd Kimbrough Award.

Clayco Honored

Clayco Inc. was recognized with an Annual Award for Business Excellence by The Business Ledger, the premier business newspaper for Chicago's suburbs. Clayco's Chicago office received the award in the Large Company category. The awards were presented at a ceremony on March 25 at the Danada House in Wheaton, Ill.

AIC Award for Sundt

The American Institute of Constructors honored Sundt Construction Inc. with its first annual Constructor Certification Commission Company Award of Excellence at its annual forum on April 17. The purpose of the award is to recognize construction companies that support constructor certification as part of the culture of their organization.

Innovation Recognized

WALTER P MOORE has won the Gold Medal in the Structural Systems category of the 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards for its role in the design of Lucas Oil Stadium. The competition was sponsored by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies. The company served as lead structural engineer and engineer-of-record for the project.

Transitions

New LEED APs for ESD

ESD (Environmental Systems Design) now has a total of 52 engineers who have achieved LEED¨ Accredited Professional status. These professionals have demonstrated their knowledge of integrated design and their capacity to facilitate the LEED certification process. ESD's Building Sciences Group, which is involved with every major design effort, is composed of consultants specifically dedicated to the application of green concepts.

Subsidiaries Merge

EMCOR Group Inc. has combined its subsidiaries Illingworth Corp. and Kilgust Mechanical Inc. to provide comprehensive HVAC and mechanical systems solutions throughout the state of Wisconsin. The combined firms will be known as Illingworth-Kilgust Mechanical, with offices in Milwaukee and Madison, Wis.

Shea Appointed to Board

Paul R. Shea, P.E., BCEE, DBIA, president of CDM's Construction Division, has been appointed to the Engineers Without Borders-USA board of directors.
