New Contracts
BRAC Contract for CDM
The Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment awarded the CDM/CAPE Joint Venture a $114 million task order for the design-build delivery of the Base Realignment and Closure/National Capital Region Relocation Administration Facility at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. The five-story, 380,000-square-foot office building will house Defense Department tenants relocation from facilities around the Washington, D.C., area slated for closure. Designs will meet LEED(r) Silver certification requirements and will include anti-terrorism protection provision, sensitive compartmented information facilities and all civil work and utilities for redevelopment of a 17.2-acre site.
Spokane Chooses CH2M HILL
Spokane County Commissioners have selected CH2M HILL to design, build and operate a new wastewater treatment facility. The nearly $130 million facility is expected to significantly improve Spokane County's current wastewater treatment capabilities, provide for anticipated population growth and meet septic tank elimination goals. In the process, it is expected to improve water quality and reduce phosphorus and other nutrient discharges into the Spokane River. The design-build-operate approach will minimize short-term capital expenses and long-term operational costs.

State's Greenest Building
Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers has demonstrated their commitment to "green" government building design in their work for the Department of State. In their role as engineering consultants for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, H&A's efforts were showcased on Earth Day (April 22) when the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations brought an innovative air-cooled chiller system online. The system uses Magnetic Levitation and variable-speed centrifugal compressor control to improve overall efficiency and minimize pumping energy consumption.
