New VP at Barton Malow
Rod Creach has joined Barton Malow as a Health Facilities Group vice president. Based in Orlando, he will initially focus on Florida projects and ultimately oversee work throughout the region. In his 25 years in the healthcare and research construction field, Mr. Creach has built more than 30 hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas.
Amato Joins Cutler
Cutler Associates of Worcester, Mass., has named Sam Amato, Jr., to the position of director of pre-construction, corporate/industrial. In this role Mr. Amato will utilize his more than 20 years of experience in estimating, project planning and project management to accurately estimate the cost of projects in the commercial/industrial marketplace. He will work closely wit owners and architects to lead the process, beginning with conceptual phasing and following through to construction documents.
New Hires at H&A
Hankins and Anderson Inc., of Richmond, Va., has added three new employees. They are Venus Ariano, mechanical engineer, in the San Diego office, and Chris Underwood, P.E., systems administrator in the IT department, and Lauren Richards, receptionist, in the Glen Allen office.

CH2M HILL Honored for Ethics
The Ethisphere Institute has named CH2M HILL as one of the 2009 World’s Most Ethical Companies. The company earned this honor by going beyond legal minimums, introducing innovative ideas to benefit the public and, by consistently pushing for ethical behavior, inducing its competitors to follow suit. CH2M HILL’s “Little Yellow Book,” written by Jim Howland, one of the firm’s founders, continues to guide the firm’s management practices and how it operates and interacts with clients and community stakeholders.
Considerate Constructors Award
A Black & Veatch project site in Perthshire, Scotland, has been selected from more than 7,000 eligible sites to be named “Most Considerate Site” of 2009. The Considerate Constructors Scheme, a national initiative set up by the United Kingdom construction industry to encourage best practices that exceed UK statutory requirements, is for an upgrade at the Glenfarg water treatment works. The £4.3 million project for Scottish Water comprises improvements to wash water, sludge recovery and disinfection and capital maintenance works and will serve a population of some 180,000.
Industry Rankings Rise
CH2M HILL has debuted on the FORTUNE 500 list at number 436. It was also ranked among the top 10 largest Colorado-based companies. Last year it was listed at 520 on the FORTUNE 1,000; in just one year the company’s revenue grew more than 27 percent, largely due to its continued emphasis on diversification.
EMCOR Group Inc. has risen from 407 to 370 on the FORTUNE 500 and, in addition, is on multiple “Top 20” lists, including “Growth in Profits” and “Total Return to Shareholders.” In addition, EMCOR was ranked 71 in the Barron’s 500 annual list for 2008, a significant increase from the company’s 2007 ranking of 151. It was also named to The 2009 Global Outsourcing 100 for the fourth year in a row. And, finally, EMCOR was named one of the “Top Green 50 Sourcing Vendors” by Black Book Research.
B&V Celebrates 20 Years
On May 6 in Hanoi, Black &Veatch hosted a special event for government officials, U.S. embassy staff, company clients and business partners in Vietnam to celebrate the company’s 20th year of providing water and energy infrastructure in the country. Since 1989, the B&V has completed 23 water-related projects in Vietnam and has an additional five under way. B&V’s energy business has completed five consulting service projects and one engineering, procurement and construction project.

Jones Achieves TOPS
McMahon Associates Inc. is proud to announce that Brian Jones, a project analyst with the firm, recently achieved Traffic Operations Practitioner Specialist certification. The certification, sponsored by the Transportation Professional Certification Board Inc. and enacted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, is a broad assessment of knowledge in traffic operations and complements the Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification. It requires at least five years of working or academic experience before passing an exam on six areas of traffic operations engineering.
