Promotions and New Hires

New Faces at H&A

Hankins and Anderson Inc. is pleased to announce a number of new staff: Ashley Moore, marketing coordinator, in the Glen Allen office; Mark Safirowski, mechanical designer; and Justin C. Wheeler, P.E., senior fire protection engineer, in the Hampton Roads office.

Higgins Joins Clayco

Scott Higgins has joined Clayco as director of government construction and design. Higgins, a registered professional civil engineer, brings over 20 years of achievement in the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. In his new position, he directs marketing and sales initiatives in the national government work sector.

Malisewski Relocates

Joseph E. Malisewski, preconstruction manager, has moved from the company’s Tempe, Ariz., office to the Northern California office. In this position, he will develop preconstruction strategy and plans and will coordinate and direct preconstruction services for projects throughout northern California and Nevada.

McCarthy Hires Madrid

McCarthy Building Companies Inc. has hired James D. Madrid to serve as director of business development, education services for its Southern California Division. Madrid is responsible for maintaining and growing the company’s Education Services Group, which focuses on the K-12 schools, community college and university markets.

Awards and Honors

CDM Honored

The Florida Chapter of the American Public Works Association presented three awards to CDM at a ceremony on April 30. The Lantana Road landfill/Park Ridge golf course project was selected as Project of the Year in the environment category and the firm was honored as Consultant of the Year in the building and grounds category for its work on that project. In addition, environmental engineer Kevin Leo, P.E., BCEE, was named 2009 Young Leader of the Year award for his contributions to the profession.

New LEED Accreditations

In May, Sundt Construction Inc. employees John C. Albers, project superintendent; Steven Bonicatto, senior estimator; James Larrieu, preconstruction project manager; and Marty M. Mitcham, project manager, became Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Accredited Professionals (APs) through the Green Building Certification Institute.

Circle of Excellence

On June 4, PSMJ Resources Inc. announced Hankins and Anderson as a 2009 Circle of Excellence firm for the second year in a row. The award recognizes firms that are well managed, have a strong client base and are led in a responsible and sustainable manner.

SAME Award

Julie Daniel, director of business development with the Farnsworth Group, Inc., was presented with the Society of American Military Engineers President’s Medal. The honor is awarded annually for outstanding leadership and accomplishments in support of the organization’s mission during the President’s tenure.

AWWA Leaders from CH2M HILL

At the American Water Works Association’s 2009 Annual Conference and Exposition, Elisa Speranza, president of CH2M HILL’s Operations & Maintenance Business Group, began her two-year term as president of Water For People, the non-profit international development organization that supports sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene education projects in developing countries. At the same time, CH2M HILL Senior Management Consultant Marie Pearthree began a three-year term as Director-At-Large.

Industry News

AWWA Sessions

Water experts from DBIA member firms Black & Veatch and CH2M HILL presented sessions at the American Water Works Association’s 2009 Annual Conference and Exposition in San Diego in June. Presentations by B&V staff focused on topics such as innovative water supply strategies, energy management and recovery and advanced treatment technologies. The information presented used Black & Veatch’s work on past projects as case studies to illustrate the presentations. CH2M HILL employees shared their knowledge and expertise on subjects such as legislative and regulatory topics, public affairs, water conservation, resources, quality and technology. In addition, local CH2M HILL professionals conducted a tour of the San Diego County Water Authority’s Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant.
