The increasing popularity of design-build in the public and private sectors strengthens DBIA’s commitment to remaining the premier deliverer of high quality design-build education. To keep you at the forefront of design-build practice, we work closely with industry experts to continually refine, improve and expand our objectives-based instructional material.
DBIA’s three “core courses” remain the cornerstone of our educational program. Fundamentals of Project Delivery, Principles of Design-Build Project Delivery and Design-Build Contract and Risk Management lay the groundwork for more advanced material and prepare design and construction industry professionals to stand as candidates for the Designated Design-Build Professional™ credential.
In addition to these core courses, DBIA remains engaged in extensive research and development with owners and design-build leaders. We have developed a series of courses aimed at teaching the three synergistic elements of optimal design-build. The courses cover the following key topics:
• Performance Requirements
• Source Selection
• Incentive Contracting
I am very pleased to inform you that two new courses aimed at more advanced professionals will be among DBIA’s 2010 educational offerings. These exciting additions to the curriculum are:
Post-Award Design-Build: Managing the Design-Build Process
This two-day course is a must for anyone who has taken DBIA’s core courses and is now ready to move on to understanding the management of the design-build process. Post-Award Design-Build provides a clear overview of the construction and design-build contract management processes that become increasingly important as the construction phase ramps up. Attendees will discuss typical project schedules and explore possible risk areas and ways to avoid delays. Instructors will discuss the design/construction interface and the responsibilities of each party in a design-build contract. In addition, the course includes a basic overview of the commissioning, testing and turnover phase of work.
Design-Build and Sustainability
This two-day course assumes a basic knowledge of all delivery methods and is aimed at students who have completed Fundamentals of Project Delivery. At the end of this course, attendees will be able to explain the interrelationship of the design-build delivery method and sustainability using the collaborative process; define and document green (sustainable) project goals from all partners using various methods; understand contractual and risk management issues specifically related to sustainability and design-build; and set up measurable tracking tools to monitor the success of sustainable design-build projects.
As always, DBIA’s instructors represent the highest level of professionalism and knowledge. We consider the background, ability and integrity of DBIA faculty fundamental to the success of our education program, our members and the A/E/C industry.
