The Board of Directors of Hensel Phelps Construction Co. has named Richard G. Tucker vice president and plains district manager. He will work out of the company’s Greeley, Colo., headquarters.

Daigger to Lead IWA
On September 5, 2009, Glen Daigger, senior vice president and chief technology officer of CH2M HILL, was elected president-elect of the International Water Association. He will take office in September 2010. While in office, Daigger will focus on the following initiatives: Building financial and participatory strength; expanding programs and membership; growing the next generation of professionals, and reinforcing a “bottom-up” culture at IWA that celebrates its members’ contributions to society. Given an increasing water constrained global situation, Daigger challenges IWA members to “dare to be great” by helping to transform water management policies and practices to meet the needs of the world’s citizens, today and tomorrow.
CH2M HILL, Clovis Project Honored
CH2M HILL is pleased to announce that Linda Macpherson was named a WateReuse Person of the Year by the WateReuse Association, and that the Clovis Water Reuse Facility, designed, built and operated by the firm, received the WateReuse Award of Merit. The awards were presented during the 24th WateReuse Annual Symposium in Seattle on September 13-16. The Clovis facility has been recognized with the Environmental Business Journal Business Achievement Award, a Global Water Award from the International Desalination Association and Global Water Intelligence and an Excellence in Environmental Engineering Award from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
Singh President of EWRI
On October 1, 2009, Udai P. Singh, vice president of CH2M HILL’s Environmental Services Business Group, took office as president of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. As president, Dr. Singh will work with EWRI and ASCE staff in the organization’s Reston, Va., headquarters and with hundreds of EWRI committee and council members in the areas of water supply, sanitation, management, climate change, solid waste, hazardous waste, standards development, air quality, hydrology, low-impact development and environmental sustainability.

Centennial Selected as Vendor Partner
Centennial Contractors Enterprises has been selected by Choice Facility Partners to be a vendor partner. Choice pre-bids on services facilities need to streamline the procurement process for the Harris County (Texas) Department of Education, as well as other education-related organizations, governmental entities and non-profits across the state.

McCarthy Urges Collaboration
On August 31, 2009, Dan McCarthy, president and CEO of Black & Veatch’s global water business, advocated continued international collaboration and cooperation by the water industry despite increasing protectionist approaches being adopted worldwide. In a white paper he says, “We need to continue to share best practices and help water utilities around the world understand each other’s points of views so that we reach a common goal of providing safe, clean, reliable water supplies for future generations in both developed and developing countries.”
Beck Technology’s DProfiler™
On August 13, 2009, Beck Technology released DProfiler™ 2009 Release 2.0. The new version of the BIM tool for concepts is in part a response to information gathered at their May 2009 user conference.
B&V Management Role Extended
The U.K. Environment Agency has extended Black & Veatch’s contract as consultant to the National Engineering and Environment Consultancy Agreement framework for two years. The framework is among the principal tools of the Environment Agency’s management strategy, which aims to manage the risk of river and sea flooding.
AHRI Awards Scholarships
On September 3, 2009, the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) announced 16 winners of the Clifford H. “Ted” Rees, Jr., Scholarship for the new semester. The scholarship, established in honor of Ted Rees, former President of AHRI’s predecessor organization, awarded a total of $19,250 for the semester. The scholarships are awarded to qualified students who are enrolled in an HVACR program at an accredited institution.
