We are always looking for additional material for publication in future issues of Design-Build DATELINE. In order to ensure your material has the best chance of acceptance in DATELINE, we have assembled some guidelines that could help you focus your piece to fit our needs.
Features: If you have a project, method, success story, “how-to” idea, or just a conception of an article that you think would work for DATELINE, please submit a brief, but detailed, e-mail to cprawdzik@dbia.org outlining what you would like to do. Please limit proposals to about 250-300 words. (If it takes much more than 300 words to describe the article idea, the idea likely needs a tighter focus.) If accepted, DATELINE will assign the story with deadlines and request a word count. Most complete features work well from about 1,500 to 2,000 words. Please advise in your query about available photos or artwork to accompany a story. Also, please understand feature proposals need at least a two-month lead time. A proposed feature about an event that would need to appear within a month or two of the proposal is likely too late.
Opinion: DATELINE wants to know what you think. If you have an idea that you think would work as an opinion piece for DATELINE, we want to know. Please submit an e-mail query describing the piece, in about two or three paragraphs. Completed opinion pieces should be about 800 words in length. At least a one-month lead time is required for opinion proposals.
Letters: If you have an idea or comment about DATELINE or design-build as a whole, we want to hear from you as well. Please e-mail your letter, no longer than 300 words, to DATELINE.
The journal reserves the right to edit any submission, and submissions should be for exclusive use by DATELINE.
Please include your full name and daytime phone number on all queries. We will do our best to respond to every inquiry, but will definitely respond to those that are the best fit for the journal. You also may fax submission proposals or letters to Christopher Prawdzik, director of information, at 202-682-5877.
We look forward to hearing from you.
