DBIA Legislation and Advocacy

DBIA advocates for the increased use of the design-build project delivery method for public procurement at the local, state and federal level.  While  DBIA also advocates for the increased use of the design-build in the private sector, we recognize the importance and influence of the public sector.  To raise the visibility of the design-build project delivery method at the state and local levels, DBIA works with its 16 Regions.

Strategic Policy Initiative Fund

Strategy Policy Initiative Fund logoDBIA's Strategic Policy Initiative Fund seeks to expand the advocacy outreach of the design-build industry, to promote the value of design-build and to increase public understanding of the design-build project delivery method. The Fund supports advocacy projects that DBIA would not otherwise have the resources to accomplish, such as the campaign to add qualifications-based selection for design-builders to the Federal Acquisition Regulations or sponsoring outreach workshops for owners on new state design-build laws.

To donate to the Strategic Policy Initiative Fund, contact Richard Thomas, rthomas@dbia.org.

On January 15, 2009, the House Appropriations Committee released the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.” The comprehensive $825 billion stimulus bill offers potential opportunities for design-builders noting thousands of construction projects across the country that include water/wastewater, transportation and vertical construction in several sectors, from military facilities to science and healthcare.

DBIA will continue to update members as this legislation takes shape. Please contact Richard Thomas, VP of Advocacy and External Affairs, at rthomas@dbia.org or 202-454-7516 for more information.
