In October 2007 the Design-Build Institute of America and the Charles Pankow Foundation reached agreement on a mutually beneficial plan to join forces, merging the Design-Build Institute’s Foundation for Integrated Services into the Charles Pankow Foundation.

Joining forces and working together within the framework of the Charles Pankow Foundation will assist DBIA in performing meaningful research to improve the practice and utilization of Integrated Delivery.  The Charles Pankow Foundation will thus represent a mutual commitment to the identification of suitable research topics in the area of Integrated Delivery, with DBIA taking a role in the identification of suitable research topics in this area.

Under this partnership the Charles Pankow Foundation will award and administer all research grants.  DBIA will work to ensure that the results of Charles Pankow Foundation research are effectively disseminated in order to promote rapid adoption of the improved methodologies identified.

The Design-Build Institute of America’s Foundation for Integrated Services was formally incorporated in March 1999 to engage exclusively in charitable educational and scientific activities.  Its goals include funding research to stimulate the development of new knowledge, information, programs, and products to help address future trends in integrated design and construction processes and their impact on society.  The Foundation’s mission is to enhance and advance the efficient use of integrated project delivery in the built environment through the support and dissemination of global research.

The Charles Pankow Foundation exists to provide the public with improved quality, efficiency and value of buildings by advancing innovation in design and construction.  The Charles Pankow Foundation supports and advances the professional ideals and beliefs espoused by Mr. Charles Pankow during his lifetime.  These beliefs were centered on advancing the speed and efficiency of the commercial building industry through innovations in engineering and construction technology, which includes structural frame design.  With regard to delivery methodology, Mr. Pankow was particularly interested in the design-build delivery method.
